Located in the center of Sag Harbor, this historic church is being renovated into a modern house with a series of minimalist garden spaces. Privet and hornbeam hedges create privacy and establish an ordered outdoor setting. A new entry court is shaded by a bosque of London planetrees with yew hedges marking parking spaces and an area for sculpture opposite the entry. On the garden side of the house, a new terrace extends into the landscape, centering on a four-sided negative edge swimming pool on axis with a quincunx planting of flowering trees. A small hidden sculpture garden is located off the living room behind the garage. Stone steps, adjacent to the church, transform into low grass terraces that define the pool garden space. Stone pavers with grass joints lead to the garden entry gate near the street.
