In this project the house creates a link between two distinct garden spaces; an entry garden viewed from the dining room and a private garden seen from the family room. In the front garden, an allée of winterberry leads past an existing old oak tree. Bluestone pavers with mazus joints connect the front entry walk to an eight foot long bluestone bench. Fothergilla hedges define the leading edge of the garden. A sweet bay magnolia hedge provides privacy from the neighbors. The winterberry allée continues to a small paved entry courtyard. In the back garden, bluestone pavers, grass joints and a specimen sweetbay magnolia create a foreground terrace for a small lap pool. A gridded planting of chokeberries creates winter interest and a clipped arbor vitae hedge provides privacy in an urban setting.
